Barack Obama Wins Presidential Election

On Tuesday night, November 4, 2008, Barack Obama was elected the President of the United States. This is not another election but a historic one. Obama is the nations' first black president.

A Democrat, the 47-year-old senator from Illinois, Obama, won against Republican Se. John McCain. Obama and his running mate, Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware, will take their oaths of office as president and vice-president on Jan 20, 2009.

Obama's decision to contest McCain in states that had not gone Democratic in years helped seal his victory in the Electoral College. Fellow Democrats also gained seats in Congress as well.

Obama's first order of business as president, is to take care of the economy. He has also pledged to withdraw the troops from Iraq in 16 months.

I'm glad that we have broken the racial barriers and elected a black president. It shows that anyone no matter the race or background can still be president. I just hope he turns things around for the good during his term.
