Deborah Jeane Palfrey, known as the "D.C. Madam," committed suicide before her trial for racketeering and money laundering charges as part of running a prostitution ring in Washington D.C. on July 24. Some of her clients included Senator David Vitter of Lousiana. She faced jail time to as long as 55 years. Her body was found in Tarpon Springs, Florida. A suicide note was found in a storage area attached to her mother's cell phone.
Palfrey once implied that suicide was just a coward's way out when one of her employees, Brandy Britton, hanged herself before her trial. Palfrey stated that Britton was not made of what she was made of. When Palfrey was writing a book last year, she contacted Dan Moldea for help. Moldea told TIME that Palfrey had been in jail before and that she will no let it happen again.
She might of committed suicide just so she can avoid being sentenced. It's sad that some people would resort to prostitution to make money. What's worse is that someone would expand it into a full fledged business.
